HAVANA, November 6 (Itar-Tass) - About 20 companies from Russia are
taking part in the 25th Havana International Fair that opened here on
Monday. The Russian firms display automotive, aviation and railway
technology, as well as instruments, machine tools, and other manufactures.
Minister of the Cuban government Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz has said in an
Itar-Tass interview, "We regard it as a very positive fact that Russia
participates in this international fair again. He said, "This is a clear
illustration of the revival of trade and economic contacts between the
two countries", the revival that has been observed in recent years.
"Trade has always been a reflection of the relations of friendship and
cooperation, the relations that have never been interrupted between our
two countries," Cabrisas pointed out. He emphasized that the Cuban
authorities "take an optimistic view of further development of bilateral
relations" with the Russian Federation.
The Havana International is involving more than 1,400 businessmen from
54 countries. The largest exhibitions have been arranged by Spain,
Canada, Panama, and China. Within the framework of the fair the Cuban
authorities annually conclude large contracts with foreign companies.
This year the value of prospective deals is estimated at over $430
million, organizing committee members say.
Cuba currently maintains commercial contacts with over 3,000 companies
from various countries, said Cuban Minister of Trade Raul de la Nuez. He
said Venezuela, China, and Spain are the first three main
trade-and-economic partners of Cuba.
