Container cranes arriving at Mariel

Container cranes arriving at Mariel

CUBA STANDARD — A cargo ship carrying four container cranes arrived at
the Port of Mariel from China, Cuban television reported.

The Zhen Hua 10, according to the report, was the first ship to arrive
at the container port of Mariel, which is still under construction. The
four Chinese-made cranes will be installed at the container terminal.

Using Brazilian funding of $640 million, Brazil's Grupo Odebrecht is
building a container mega-port at the small town 30 miles West of
Havana. According to the TV report, the first part of the port project,
700 meters of pier, is scheduled to be completed in December.

Once ready, the container port, a connected logistics area, and a bulk
cargo facility at Mariel will replace the Port of Havana. Mariel will
also feature a "special development zone" for companies that manufacture
goods for export and domestic use.
