HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES WINS POWER GENERATOR ORDERS FROM CUBA
SEOUL, Nov 30 Asia Pulse - Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's
largest shipbuilder, said Wednesday it has clinched a US$130 million
order from Cuba to install diesel power generators there.
Hyundai said it plans to complete installation of diesel power
generators across the nation by the end of 2007 to meet the dispersed
generation plan of the Cuban government.
A total of 344 units, including 244 from a previous order in September,
of Hyundai's indigenous HiMSEN engines will be supplied, according to
the company. HiMSEN is the company's in-house ship engine transformed
for power generation.
"Electricity from Hyundai Heavy's power generators will make up about 30
per cent of the nation's total capacity of 2,500 megawatts," Hyundai said.
Hyundai has won a total of $460 million worth of orders this year from
the Cuban utility company responsible for the nation's electricity grid.
Hyundai has also obtained deals for power generators with a combined
capacity of 42 megawatts from Mexico, 14 megawatts from El Salvador and
7 megawatts from Dominica.
Hyundai, the world's leading ship engine maker, has about 35 per cent of
the industry's global market share.
