Crackdown of street vendors continues

Crackdown of street vendors continues

HAVANA, April 18 (Jaime Leygonier / www.cubanet.org) - Authorities are
cracking down on street vendors in the capital in the hopes of
eradicating them before September's meeting here of the Non-Aligned
Movement, according to a police officer involved in the activities.

The crackdown is most evident in Old Havana and other areas of the
capital most visited by tourists.

A policeman who detained three blind vendors near the Gran Cinema told
them their sales were illegal and the government couldn't afford to have
such activities taking place during the Non-Aligned meeting.
