Airlines Map Out Cuba Flight Plans

Airlines Map Out Cuba Flight Plans

Now that travel restrictions to Cuba have eased up, some airlines are
starting to put travel plans together for potential U.S. flights to Cuba.

Allegiant and AirTran are the first airlines talking openly about
potential Cuba flights. Both low-cost carriers currently offer flights
to the Caribbean.

According to Travel Weekly, Allegiant recently entered into contract
talks with other airlines to provide Miami flights to Cuba, and hopes to
start flying to Cuba as early as June.

AirTran's CEO Bob Fornaro said in a first-quarter earnings call that
it's likely "four or five airlines would like to enter the [Cuba-Las
Vegas] market and perhaps other markets down there when the time comes."

Travel restrictions to Cuba have been lifted for U.S. citizens with
family in Cuba. However, in a recent Open Letter to President Obama:
U.S. Leisure Travel to Cuba, Cheapflights.com found that many travelers
are eager to visit the land beyond the border.
