South American Tourism to Cuba on the Rise

South American Tourism to Cuba on the Rise

MONTEVIDEO - The wave of South American visitors to Cuba increased by
12 percent in the first nine months of this year, according to Luis
Felipe Aguilera, from the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR).

Aguilera, who is Director of the Information and Promotion Department
for South America, told Prensa Latina that his forecast is to close the
year with over 115,000 South American visitors, a significant increase
of over 25 percent compared to last year, when at least 85,000
travellers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay
visited the Island.

"The number of visitors from main tourist markets is falling; therefore,
we decided to implement a promotion campaign titled Authentic Cuba," he
said.

"It is very flexible and adapts to different means; it is very
authentic, as its name indicates; it shows the strength of our
destination and approaches what the client expects when visiting the
country," he explained.

Aguilera presented the promotion campaign during the 7th Encotur Fair on
October 13-14, in Montevideo, where a six-minute video showing the
beauty of Cuba's landscape was screened.
