AIG blacklists Cuba travellers

AIG has stopped providing cover to UK residents travelling to Cuba.

AIG now also refuses to cover trips to Sudan, Afghanistan and Liberia.

While it is normal for travel insurers to refuse to cover people
travelling to places with problems of war or natural disaster, it is
normal to exclude cover by UK nationals to a peaceful country.

Americans cannot visit Cuba without a special visa from their own
government that increasingly refuses to grant visas.

There is no requirement for UK nationals to get authorisation. Neither
is Cuba on the list of countries from the FCO that the government
suggests you avoid or only go to with great care.

Critics of the decision say that US politics should have no place in a
UK insurer's decision of where to insure.
