HAVANA TIMES, Oct. 13 - The construction industry in Cuba lacks
sufficient labor force, a problem it has tried to resolve through the
deployment of personnel mainly from the country's eastern provinces,
reported IPS on Tuesday.
Around 15 per cent of the total labor force in the state controlled
industry is made up by contingents staying in more than 150 camps, far
away from their places of residence, notes the news agency.
Construction work, like many other trades, was looked down upon for many
years in Cuba and most parents preferred their children become
professionals to work at less physically demanding and higher paying jobs.
