Abu Dhabi — The UAE's Ministry of Economy yesterday (Friday) discussed
ways to establish economic and investment relations with Cuba.
During the meeting held between Abdullah Bin Ahmad Al Saleh,
Undersecretary at the ministry, and Rodrigo Malmierca, Cuba's Minister
of Trade and Foreign investment, Al Saleh stressed that the UAE and
Cuban government must work on preparing and promoting the private
sector's investment environment by signing agreements to protect and
encourage investments, as well as a tax avoidance agreement.
Al Saleh also indicated the importance of setting up an air bridge
between the two countries, which will allow for the transport of
businessmen, tourists and products from UAE and Cuba.
Malmierca said that the Cuban government is keen on building trade and
economic relations with the UAE, and added that Cuba is currently
working on comprehensively developing all its economic sectors and
ensuring the presence of necessary legislations to attract foreign
investments.
He praised the continued progress achieved by the UAE economy, and the
vision of its leadership to transform the country into a key economic
hub in the region.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the UAE-Cuba business forum,
which was organised by the UAE's Foreign Ministry at Atlantis The Palm
Hotel.
