HAVANA: Communist Cuba is expanding sales of agricultural equipment to
small farmers and looking at new ways for them to sell their goods.
Orlando Lugo is president of the official National Association of Small
Farmers. He says growers island-wide can now buy formerly controlled
production tools such as machetes, wire, boots and herbicide for a local
weed called "marabu."
The equipment went on sale in recent months at just three stores on the
island.
Lugo said on state television Monday that the government is also
examining new ways small farmers can commercialize goods.
