CHINHOYI Provincial Hospital has received a major boost after getting
three medical doctors from Cuba under a government-to-government agreement.

The three general surgeons - who began work on Monday last week --
replaced three others who left under the same arrangement recently.

Mashonaland West provincial medical director Dr Wenceslaus Nyamayaro
confirmed the arrival of the doctors, saying it would go a long way in
improving capacity and relieving the burden on other practitioners.

"The doctors started work last week on Monday and are now undergoing
their induction," he said.

The hospital currently has about four doctors against an ideal staff
complement of 21 general practitioners and six specialist doctors to
fully function as a referral institution. This means the available
doctors are working round the clock to fully service the hospital.

The country has been experiencing massive brain drain which Government
has sought to curb by introducing incentives under the recently launched
skills retention programme.
